Biography
Marcy's Endorsement
I had owned and worked with horses for over 30 years when I found myself the owner of a very challenging, bright, young alpha horse. I knew I would need the help of a competent horse person to make sure my hot new "project" maintained his tractable disposition, stayed safe, stayed sound, and became a horse I could enjoy being around. Megan has exceeded my expectations. She knows when to push Little Guy through his resistance, and she also knows intuitively when to back off and let him figure things out without pressure. She's firm and immediate in her corrections, but equally quick and generous with rewards. I can honestly say that Megan has changed the way I look at my horse, and how I interact with him on the ground and from the saddle. Little Guy and I are both happier-and better competitors-because of it.
I trust Megan Megan with all of my horses, and have boarded with her when I needed to leave "special needs" horses with someone competent and caring. Her facility is clean and safe, and she's commited to keeping it in immaculate condition. Did I mention her barn is probably cleaner than my house?
I will continue to bring Little Guy to Megan for "tune-ups" as long as she'll have him-and now my daughters' green ponies are in line for Megan's "Ground School for Greenies" as well. Megan makes horses mind their ettiquette! I couldn't recommend anyone more highly.
Biographical Sketch of Megan Georges, by Lynea Schultz-Ela
Megan Georges came to be my dressage teacher through my retired dressage horse. She was looking for an older horse to use in lessons—I came with my old Morgan Epic to watch her work and immediately decided to work with her. Why? Megan brought to the dressage arena both a practiced and quick eye, a true feel for every stride, and a gift for telling and teaching. As time went by, both Epic and I progressed quickly and genuinely into better athletes. It has been a transformative experience for both of us. How did this happen—how does a young woman like Megan come to teach me, a much older woman, and all her horses to feel more, see more, communicate more, and consequently understand the experience and beauty of dressage?
Practically speaking, Megan has had a wonderful opportunity to ride and train since she was five years old. Early on she discovered a passion for dressage and began working with increasingly educated trainers. In her late teen years, when many of us were more interested in changing our lives, Megan dug deeper into dressage and began training her Andalusian gelding Quimero. The results have been excellent with national competitions and recognition including USDF All Breeds Awards in Intermediare I and Intermediare Freestyle. She currently gains insights and developmental help by working with Sabine Schut-Kery, Jan Nivelle (Germany), Miguel Ralao Duarte (principal rider for the Escola Portuguesa D’Arte Equestre), and Jane Savoie.
But it’s much more than the practically attained skills that bring forth a successful teacher—it’s that indescribable combination of learned skills and innate understanding, with a gift and desire to teach. Her focus the classical training scale and bridging the communication gap that most riders are faced with in today’s dressage arena. From the basics of the aids, to the complexities of the upper level conversation between horse and rider, Megan has significant and positive impact. It’s a tremendous talent, and I’m grateful she is willing to share it with me.
