Quimero
It was once said that not all angels are in heaven, but that some are right here walking the earth with us. Quimero, is one of them. It was a warm night when he stepped off the transport and changed my life forever. I’d like to say it was the happiest night of my life... but that is untrue, he makes every single one of my days happier than the one before, and I hope it is a day very far from now when he goes back to heaven from where he was sent. Our journey is not over yet, barely begun actually, but it would be an injustice to finish this website, without giving recognition to the reason it is here in the first place. If it wasn’t for Quimero, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I owe this soul everything, and every day he reminds me.. I hope you enjoy reading about Quimero as much as I enjoy telling you about him and all of our accomplishments together.
Quimero, bred by Judy Thompson of Cahaba Valley Lusitanos foaled April 5, 1995. This son of the Pure Andrade stallion Irreal, out of Leviton granddaughter, Diosa was purchased In July of 1997 by Megan Georges. He arrived at night at friend’s place, Sue Waycuilis where he began light ground training with Megan who took over his training after Miguel Ralao Duarte started basic work while he was at Cahaba Valley Lusitanos.
Two years later Quimero and Megan began showing in Open Dressage. By year 2000, the pair had qualified for ABIC/SWDC regional Championships at Training level. From then on, showing became quite a successful venture for Quimero. In addition to winning numerous GMO and Breed awards over the years here are just a few of his accomplishments in the years that followed:

In Spring of 2003, Megan and Quimero began showing Intermediarre I & II, and also their Intermediarre I Freestyle. The two were unable to continue through the fall show season due to Quimero being diagnosed with Laminitis and Founder with more than 7 degrees rotation of the coffin bone in September of 2003. Quimero, although his show time was cut short, still received a certificate in the mail stating that he was the winner of the 2003 USDF All Breeds awards for Intermediarre I & Intermediarre I freestyle. By November of 2003, his founder had progressed to the point of either being humanely destroyed or his last hope was to make a road trip up to Laminitis expert, Dr Bruce Lyle DVM of Aubrey Equine. Farrier, Ron Marshall and Vet, Dr Nancy St Peter of Georgeotwn Equine Hospital spent all day constructing special shoes for this journey made of wood that were designed to protect Quimero’s coffin bones which had at this point penetrated the soles of his hooves. Quimero was then transported to Aubrey Equine. The day before Thanksgiving, Megan held Quimero as Dr Lyle performed tenotomy surgery on both of Quimero’s deep digital flexor tendons. The prognosis was variable. The surgery would definetly save his life and may enable him to return back to be a riding horse, but his ability to go back to competition was unknown. With much care, hope and compassion from not only Megan herself, but all loving friends and members of her family, not to mention an entire group of people who consider themselves Quimero’s fans, Quimero made a long but joyful journey back to recovery. He is now back in full training and is schooling Grand Prix again.
Megan and Quimero made their debut ride back into the dressage arena on April 2, 2005 where they earned a third place in Intermediarre I with a score of 61.5%! The next morning they went back in and won the same class with a 59.5 %. Look for book, by author Lucinda Dyer, entitled, "Back to Work" to be published in 2006. The book will be focused on sport horses who have overcome impossible odds to return back to the competition arena. Quimero's story will be included! Megan and Quimero's goals for this year are to have a good time working towards 2005 Regional Championships to compete at Intermediarre I and they also have confirmed plans to participate in an 8 horse quadrille at Dressage at Devon this upcoming Fall with trainer, Sabine Schut Kery & Proud Meadows Freisians.
